Introducing OHD Anywhere™ Garage Door Opener App

OHD Anywhere Logo

Imagine the peace of mind and convenience that comes with being able to open or close your garage door from anywhere in the world. We’re excited to introduce Overhead Door’s new smart device enabled garage door controller: OHD Anywhere. Never worry again about giving your garage passcode to anyone. With the use of OHD Anywhere, it’s as simple as opening the app on your smart device.

OHD Anywhere allows users to operate up to three garage doors from any location. The app is compatible with most Android and Apple mobile devices. The ability to monitor your garage from afar is not only convenient, but also safer than traditional monitoring methods. Door-mounted sensors monitor the position of the garage door rather than the operation of a garage door opener. Users will be alerted to any change in position of the garage door even if it’s been disengaged from the opener.

OHD Anywhereworks through the use of your home Wi-Fi® connection, and can be programmed for use on up to three doors per module (additional sensors are required if you have more than one door). The door module incorporates the low-power SimpleLink Wi-Fi CC3200 wireless MCU from Texas Instruments (TI)* which allows for users to securely operate their garage doors. OHD Anywhere can be used with most garage door openers produced after 1993 (click here to see if your opener is compatible).

Commercial and retail property owners have an attractive new option for securing their interior spaces with the introduction of Overhead Door’s Model 674 Security Grille.

Engineered for inside applications, the Model 674 is a new perforated grille constructed from lightweight aluminum panels that provide security while maximizing visibility, air flow and light infiltration. Keeping Your Garage Safe

We know choosing a new garage door and system can be a daunting task. Between considering a style, selecting a color and worrying about price, it’s easy to get distracted and forget about one of the most important aspects – safety. It’s something that homeowners too often overlook. Luckily, Overhead Door does not, and we build many safety features into our doors, openers and accessories that will help to keep your home and family safe. Below are just some of the many safety features you’ll find in Overhead Door products.

Lighting
One of the most important safety features to consider when remodeling your garage or purchasing a new garage door and opener system is garage lighting. All Overhead Door openers feature a lighting system that activates when you open your garage door and then switch off after a set time. And some, like our Destiny® and Odyssey® openers, even include motion detection lighting that will turn on the lights for you so you aren’t fumbling for a light switch in a dark garage.

Accident Prevention
Our Safe-T-Beam System®, standard in all Overhead Door openers, stops and reverses a closing door when an object passes through its infrared beam, helping to prevent accidents when your garage door is closing.

Battery Back-Up
OHD Battery BackUp
Power’s out? No problem. The Overhead Door Battery Back-Up Unit allows you to continue to operate your garage door during a power outage. This system reaches a full charge in 48 hours and gives you up to 50 cycles of use in a 24-hour period after the initial power outage.

Security
Part of keeping your garage safe is keeping it secure. That’s why we use the latest in CodeDodger® technology on all our openers, which prevents piracy of the radio signal that opens your garage door. This technology chooses a code from one of billions of combinations, keeping it encrypted for maximum security.

For further security, Overhead Door developed the Door Reportremote, a garage door opener remote control that answers the nagging question, “Did I close the garage door?” When your garage door closes, the Door Reportremote flashes a green light and emits a beep for confirmation. If for some reason the garage door does not close properly, a warning tone sounds and a red light flashes to alert you. This innovative accessory eliminates uneasiness because you will never have to wonder, “Did I forget to shut the garage door?” again.

By visiting OverheadDoor.com, you can find more information on our products and accessories that enhance garage safety, as well as locate a distributor near you to discuss updating or adding these options to your system.

Garage Door Safety Month Reminders from Overhead Door

Think-Safety-FirstJune has arrived. For a garage door company like us, this means it’s Garage Door Safety Month, a time the International Door Association (IDA) and the Door & Access Systems Manufacturers Association (DASMA), two associations that we are proud to be a part of, have designated to educate homeowners on the importance of keeping safe in and around the garage.

As you gather outdoors for summer picnics and parties, or even just spend an evening in the driveway chatting with the neighbors, we want you to keep something in mind. Your garage door is most likely the largest moving object in your home. If you are like many American families, it’s also the door you enter and leave the home from most often.

That’s why we’d like to share with you ten garage safety tips to keep your family safe this summer.

  1.  Mount the garage door opener control button out of the reach of small children (at least five feet from the floor) and where you have a clear view of the door.
  2.  Do not allow children to play with garage door remote controls; explain that the remote controls are not toys.
  3. Set a good example for children and discuss garage door safety with them; explain how to operate the door safely.
  4. Test your garage door opener’s reversing mechanism monthly by placing a 2 x 4 board in the door’s path. If the door does not reverse after contacting the object, call an authorized Overhead Door Ribbon® distributor at 1-800-929-DOOR for ohd install openerprofessional repair.
  5.  Know how to use your garage door opener’s emergency release feature. Your owner’s manual provides instructions.
  6. Visually inspect your garage door each month. Look at the garage door’s springs, cables, rollers and pulleys for signs of wear. If any of these components appear damaged, contact an authorized Overhead Door Ribbon® distributor for inspection or repair.
  7. Do not attempt to repair cables or springs. These parts are under high tension and require special tools for adjustment. Improper handling or disconnection can cause breakage and serious injury.
  8. To avoid damage to your door and opener, make sure you disable or remove any door locks, ropes, and/or cables prior to operating your opener.
  9. Use the release mechanism on the garage door opener to manually open the door using its interior or exterior lift handles. The door should lift smoothly with little resistance and should stay open around three or four feet above the floor. If it is difficult to perform this task, your door may be out of balance, causing premature wear. Call an authorized Overhead Door distributor for adjustment.
  10. To prevent accidents when a garage door is closing, invest in a garage door opener that features photoelectric eye safety beams, which are mounted a few inches off the floor and send an invisible beam across the door’s path. If the invisible beam is broken, the garage door will automatically reverse to its fully open position. The invisible beam provides added safety to the auto reverse mechanism, as the door does not have to contact an object in order to reverse. The Safe-T-Beam® is a standard feature on the entire line of Overhead Door garage door openers.
